Harold Miller, Chair, Academy of Christian Scholars email
Harold A. Miller (better known as Hal) worked at the University of Minnesota for 32 years, as a faculty member and administrator. After completing his PhD in the Speech-Communication Department, he taught at Northwestern College and at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA. Returning to Minnesota, he began his career at the University as a faculty member in the Rhetoric Department on the St. Paul Campus. Later he became an assistant dean in General Extension with responsibilty for the University's Summer Session program. In 1971 he was named Dean of Continuing Education and Extension, a position he held for 27 years. During many of those years he also taught courses in the Speech-Communication department.
In 1998, Miller retired from the University and accepted the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs at his alma mater, Northwestern College in Roseville, MN. There he also taught courses in theatre. He added the title of Provost as well as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Northwestern in 2002. In August of this year, he retired from that position and in September he joined the Maclaurin Institute on a part-time basis. His title will be Chair of the Academy of Christian Scholars (ACS). As Chair of ACS, Miller will have the responibilty of encouraging program initiatives within the University which advance scholarship and teaching in religion generally and Christianity specifically. He will also try to broaden the involvement of Christian faculty and staff members in fellowship and program initiatives.
